Project Outline

To create a CAD or Modeling tool inside Croquet for the creation and simulation physical objects in virtual worlds.

Technical Details

Croquet lacks a native CAD or Modeling tool to create physical objects inside its virtual worlds. Currently those objects have to be imported from external programs. Since freeCAD is a basic CAD with Motion Simulation and is written in VisualWorks Smalltalk and OpenGL, it is a logical candidate to be the native CAD for Croquet.

The first step is to duplicate all the capabilities of freeCAD as in
http://ar-cad.com
inside Croquet. Beyond that is to create more GUI to take advantage of the Solid Modeling and NURBS inside freeCAD. Ultimately, we wish freeCAD to be the default tool for creating Croquet worlds and its contents.

Benefits to the Student

The student will learn how to build a CAD system inside a virtual reality environment and use the power of Smalltalk.

Benefits to the Community

freeCAD can be the authoring tool used by all users of Croquet for the creation of virtual worlds and its contents.
