Swiki Wishlist

  • Graphic Page - the idea is to have graphics page in which you can view but also edit a vector-based graphic. This requires some kind of a plugin. Squeak?. The toolbar will show the basic shapes etc. The plugin might store both the editable version and a PNG image. Ernest
  • Swiki Refactoring
    • Inline Page: Choose a link and inline its text
    • Extract Page: Select a text region and create a page from it Ernest
  • I'd like an option - per page or per entry - to have a Swiki automatically detect words or phrases that exist as Swiki pages and set them up as links.
  • Chinese, I need a version which is support Chinese. Zencat
  • It would be nice to set up permissions on this page so jokers don't come along and write silly things on it
  • Be able to put a lock-block on a page so some joker does not clobber the content, lock the page, and then I cannot even re-install from history (e.g. http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/swiki/110). -RikSmoody
  • Should be able to re-set to use a version from history without copy/paste. -RikSmoody
  • Squeak Wiki Should be better than PHP see Wikipedia
    • Anything in the pipeline to deal with that?.Justin
  • It would be nice to be able to reliably reference a swiki page externally by name. For example, something like: http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak?page=Morph should access the page named "Morph" on that swiki. Currently you can try http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/morph but that doesn't always access the correct page. (Note that this incorrectly goes to the page "Morphic" instead of "Morph".) 2003/02/10 – Doug Way
  • The ability for an admin to disallow locking a specific page might be nice. The best example of this is the Sandbox page found on many swikis. On the Squeak Swiki, some malcontent will often lock the page so that no one else can play with it. 2003/02/10 – Doug Way
  • Could clicking Help cause another page to pop-up rather than take me to the help page. This would be helpful, creating a virtual "cribsheet." WikiWikiWeb works that way, as do wikis made with TWiki. 2003/02/09 – Claude
  • I would like to see the "add to this page" functionality ('+' on an edit line) augmented so that the user may choose whether to have added comments placed before or after the '+'. I would like to be able to let users post comments such that the most recent comment appears at the top of the page. – Jeff S.
  • a VisualWikiPlugin, a possibility to have a VisualWiki, and more interesting, the possibility to draw graph and edge to organize content (like a MindMapWiki). – Samir
  • The log file of swiki doesn't work with webalizer... The format seems to be different from standard clf/ftp/squid log format ! – Samir
  • if the Links functionality would find only one link, jump directly to it. Or introduce a new link command like 'goto parent' Stephan
  • I've noticed that a lot of Wikis end up being bastardized in order for people to have threaded discussions. I'm wondering if it might be a good idea (or if it has been done somewhere) to allow the free form of a page, but to attach a threaded discussion to each node?
  • I would like to see Swikis that can be produced from templates, and use the notion of templates in certain places. In particular, it would be very usefull if the '+' command had an extension to it that allowed the "add to this page" box to be pre-filled with certain text, so that those who are adding to a page can be "guided" somewhat as to what information they should be adding. ryandear@ucar.edu
  • i put two wishes on my page: strick
  • it should be possible for a _local_ Admin to change the settings of his swiki in http://mySwiki/admin/. I have to contact the Admin of all Swikis on the Site to change some of my settings ... that's stupid.
    • I second this change but don't support the stupid in it :-) Claude
  • I'd like to be able to embed Squeak code in my pages, a la *?Date today printString?*. It does not work with my UNIX version of Comanche 5.0 / Swiki 1.3. BTW, I have not found an option "ActiveSwikiPages" (something to be enabled, as suggested in the FAQ section) neither within the admin tool, nor within the Comanche Source archive. – TK
  • I would like to be able to specify a mapping between IP addresses or machine names and users, so that user names show up in the "Last edited:" information.
    • I second that–I would like to see the names of the registered users who change a page. When there are over a 100 users, it would really help to know who is having problems but doesn't realize it yet.
    • I third that–user labelling and a user registation function would keep me from looking at any other WikiWikis out there, PeterB
    • I fourth that for reasons 1, 2 and 3 above.
    • It would also look better
  • I'd like to be able to password protect single pages (not only whole swikis) (This one's already done!)
  • We want more :) look at: http://scgwiki.iam.unibe.ch:8080/SCG/476
  • Backup the whole Swiki and put a link where we can have .ZIP with the whole Swiki (Pages and Uploads). This is very useful is a production environment. The idea it can be using a thing like http://myswiki/backup. In that page protected by Administrator password we can set up the time (like a cron command in UNIX) when the backup can run. Tools dev.
  • Search option of "titles only" (Suggestion: see SearchTitlesOnly)
  • I'ld like to be able to upload whole folder instead of individual file.. and if possible multiple files in one shot... Claude
  • I'd like the possibility to delete uploaded files. Where there is a check of links referring to the file (and the user being warned in that case). Geert

  • It would be a real time saver if Swiki had the ability to create a RSS feed. (Suggestion: see SwikiRssFeed)

  • A wiki map function and an index listing all pages
  • a sort of 'soapbox' sort of thing
  • an easier way of editing the toolbars; from a non-Squeaker

My suggestions after a few months of using your excellent Swiki heavily on my project:
  • It would be convenient if the toolbar (I'm using the top-aligned mode rather than the sidebar) was accessible however far down you are viewing a long page. Navigating up to the top to edit is (very) mildly annoying.
  • Using hyphens to create bullted lists is very useful - perhaps you could add the option of numbered lists (and sublists) too, say using the '#' sign?
  • I'd like to be able to create new pages from a template that I provide. That template could merely be the contents of another Wiki page. Of course I can do that by copying and pasting the contents of that page to the new one, but as I do that so often perhaps a formalisation of that would be generally handy
  • Some formatting options would be a lot easier with a little toolbar on the edit page - particularly text colouring, for which the current HTML-based system is a bit clumsy. If I could select text in the edit box and click a colour in a palette, which auto-inserts the tag, that would rock (although I guess the edit box is only so flexible...)
  • A slightly quicker way of getting to named pages - perhaps by a CGI tool accessible from the Address bar, so you could enter: 'http://blah.com/MyWiki/find=Cabbages' to go to the Cabbages page.
  • A systemic way of deleting old content, perhaps (as someone has suggested) by way of a 'view all pages' page, with management options for the admin.
  • I read above somebody's suggestion of a graphing tool to show the internal connectivity of a Wiki - that sounds pretty cool, possibly (gasp) even useful!
  • Strikeout mode (< s > , < /s >) is very useful indeed, but not mentioned on the help - why not add it, and any other secret options!
  • Those minor suggestions aside, Swiki rocks, I'd have trouble without it now. Cheers, Ben
  • I'd like swiki to honor .htaccess so I don't have to keep two sets of passwords. Currently integrating swiki into a larger web is awkward to administer. - Tim Born>timborn@ANTISPAMmegapathdsl.com
