MP3 and other codecs
Last updated at 12:23 pm UTC on 16 January 2006
First up is a MPEG 1 Audio Layer 1, 2, and 3 decoder, otherwise known as MP3. Squeak now includes an MPEG decoder in the standard download.

these comments are mostly old and will disapepar if someone doesn't revive them soon...

Only a decoder though since an encoder (ripper) has patent problems for free distribution. Once that is done then I'll explore other audio codecs.

The mpeg decoder (video and audio) can be found here
http://www.smalltalkconsulting.com/html/mpeg3source.html. It is also available in Squeak 3.1.

An interesting looking open source effort to do MPEG decoders is at http://www.doom9.net/

Squeak has many built-in codecs, as well! Is there documentation on these anywhere??

why don't go for ogg vorbis? a free audio codec (http://xiph.org/)

thx
